Dart Communications Announces Support for Microsoft's New Version 5.0 Visual Tools
PowerTCP Helps Customers Embrace the Internet While Continuing to Leverage Client/Server Technology.

Syracuse, N.Y. — March 19, 1997 — Dart Communications today confirmed that its PowerTCP ActiveX toolkit is fully compatible with the new version 5.0 of Microsoft® Visual Tools. PowerTCP Internet-enhanced ActiveX controls allow developers to write Internet applications that will download from any Web site. Combined with forthcoming Visual Basic Scripting Edition samples, it will be easier than ever for developers to add TCP protocols to any Web page. To illustrate the incredible time savings involved, the TCP Connect method alone replaces more than 50 lines of code a developer would normally have to write and test.

"ActiveX technology addresses a fundamental client/server problem—that of client application delivery to the desktop," says Michael Baldwin, president of Dart Communications. "Now, with tools like Visual Basic programming system version 5.0, Web applications will proliferate, and PowerTCP Internet Connectors will bring open system solutions to ActiveX-enabled browsers."

PowerTCP Internet-enhanced ActiveX controls are available for the following Internet protocols: TCP, TELNET, FTP, SMTP, POP3, UDP, TFTP and SNMP. A VT320 emulation component is also provided. Toolkits include application templates with source code for numerous applications such as FTP, TELNET, RSHELL, REXEC and HTTP.

"PowerTCP and Microsoft’s new version 5.0 Visual Tools allow developers to streamline the creation of Internet and client/server applications," said Tom Button, director of marketing of development tools at Microsoft Corp. "As a leading provider of Internet Connectors, PowerTCP allows developers to embed an ActiveX control into an application for instant Internet access."
