For Immediate Release

Add Flexible Zip Compression to Any Microsoft Windows or ASP.NET-based Application.

Rome, N.Y.- March 5,2004-

Dart Communications, a leading provider of Internet Development Components and Services, announced today the release of PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET. This new addition to Dart’s PowerTCP product line enhances the Microsoft .NET Framework with the ability to manipulate compressed zip files and create newly compressed files to exacting specifications. Dart also announced it will fully integrate the PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET in the upcoming Microsoft Visual Studio "Whidbey".

PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET enables not only standard zip file/stream compression and decompression, but also allows for fine-tuned data configuration. The powerful Archive component represents all data as individual items in a collection, regardless of whether their source is compressed or uncompressed, exposing their properties for customization. This technology allows for mixing uncompressed data with previously compressed files and recompressing them into new archives.

For those requiring simple operations, the Archive component includes QuickZip and QuickUnzip capability, allowing for compression and decompression with only one line of code. Batch operations are supported with wildcards and the multi-threaded asynchronous capability allows for behind-the-scenes operation without hurting application performance. Other key features include support for reading gZip compressed data, the ability to create self-extracting zip files with a programmatically configurable self-extractor and full support for spanning operations, whether to removable media such as a floppy, or splitting the data to a hard drive.

Developers using Microsoft ASP.NET will benefit from the extensive stream support in PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET. All compression and decompression operations include support for stream sources and destinations. This capability allows web developers to seamlessly compress data and return it to a requesting client without writing temporary files and enabling write-access on the server.

"Our goal was not only to provide simple zip and unzip functionality, but also include convenient file management capability and powerful features." said Alex Gladshtein, Director of the Product Group. "We have learned over the years that customers demand intuitive products that also empower them with extreme flexibility in their development. PowerTCP Zip Compression will now deliver that to developers using Visual Studio .NET 2003 today and to Visual Studio ‘Whidbey’ tomorrow."

"Microsoft is pleased that Dart Communications continues to support ASP.NET," said Shawn Nandi, product manager in the Developer and Platform Evangelism Division at Microsoft Corp. "By bringing capabilities such as flexible zip compression to ASP.NET-based applications, Dart Communications is helping all levels of developers build great sites."

PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET can be used for projects such as dynamically returning compressed data from a Web server without using temporary files, adding archival capability to applications built on the Microsoft .NET Framework, outputting self-extracting compressed files from an application, and scheduled batch compression or decompression operations.

PowerTCP Zip Compression for .NET is available immediately. Additional information about this product, and a 30-day trial download, can be found at Dart Communications’ website
